NEW POST

Hey Home Skillets! My website is under some MAJOR construction right now so please be patient with me. The new site will be up soon!

Neptune's Chest Shrimp Salad

1 lb cooked, deveined and peeled medium shrimp {tail off}
4 stalks celery, tops and bottoms removed, chopped
2 green onions, sliced
1/2 c mayo (light mayo or vegan mayo as a healthier choice)
2 tsp dijon mustard
juice of half a lemon
salt and pepper to taste
1 cantaloupe, halved, seeded and flesh removed {see tips below}
1 small heart of Romaine lettuce, chopped, rinsed and dried

Mix all.  Chill for an hour.  Fill each melon half with shredded lettuce.  Spoon chilled shrimp salad onto lettuce, dividing between the halves. Makes two generous salads.

My Little Black Dress!

Not too long ago I posted a photo of a few dresses on my Facebook and asked you guys to help me choose one.

All the dresses got votes but the three that received the most were #2, 3, and 5 (which happened to be my favorites out of the bunch as well). But in the end only one would come home with me and that was #5.

Thank you guys so much for your help!

Will You Ever Let It Grow???

Since cutting my hair (for the second time) back in September, I have been getting asked why I cut it and when will I let it grow back. To be honest with you guys I had been thinking about cutting my hair this entire year, and once I started living a more active (fit) lifestyle it made my decision a lot easier.

Now when I work out I sweat a lot and it wasn't always this way. However, the more I worked out, the more places on my body decided they wanted to sweat it out...this includes my scalp. Imagine ending a workout and your entire head feels like you just finished a wash-n-go. Yea, not hot in the streets. Having to wash a head full of natural hair everyday isn't either. So that's the reason I cut it. It's just easier.

Now as for growing my hair, yes, I will be growing it out and I will also be starting a new series on my YouTube channel all about hair growth and retaining length. I actually haven't trimmed my hair this month and was considering letting it grow out for the new year...but I will keep you guys posted. Until then I'm going to enjoy the heck out of this short hair.

My Favorite Lip Glosses Of 2012

My Vitamin E stick (fromt the Vitamin Shoppe) is not necessarily a lip
gloss but it is definitely my go to lip balm for everyday use.
Especially since I get chapped lips easily.
Vitamin E keeps my lips moisturized and soft.
It also has a very smooth finish that's not sticky at all.

LipLicious. by Bath & Body in "Cherry Gelato" is next on my list.
This gloss is not very pigmented but it's just enough
to give my lips a hint of color, and its cherry scent is amazing!
This gloss is also one that I use very often.

Marvelous Moxie by BareMinerals in "Dare Devil" is the latest addition
to my favorite lip glosses. As some of you may know I received this gloss
in one of my monthly beauty subscriptions. It has a very minty finish that
tingles your lips, but it is not a lip plumper.

This MAC lip gloss in "Spirits A' Flying" is a beautiful nude gloss with
a shimmer finish. This polish was given to me in a gift basket by a good
friend of mine. At first glance I didn't think I would like it very much but I
fell in love within the first use.

Finally on the list is my Extreme Lip Glider Lip Gloss by N.Y.C. in
"Plaza Punch".
This gloss is packed with shimmer and very smooth. It also
has fruity smell to it.

Instagram Has The Right to Sell YOUR Photos!

Just in case you guys have not heard the word as yet, Instagram will be going through major changes that affect all its users.

Instagram said [yesterday, December 17] that it has the perpetual right to sell users' photographs without payment or notification, a dramatic policy shift that quickly sparked a public outcry.
The new intellectual property policy, which takes effect on January 16, comes three months after Facebook completed its acquisition of the popular photo-sharing site. Unless Instagram users delete their accounts before the January deadline, they cannot opt out.

I don't know about you guys, but I will be deleting my account tooo-day!

Million Dollar Smiles!

So this weekend O and Dimples got their braces put in. Don't they look cute...haha! I personally think braces are one of the best investments you could make in yourself...besides healthy living. I mean think about it...what is the first thing you usually notice about someone? Their smile.  Plus healthy teeth play a role in cardiovascular health.

Here are some pics of me with my braces. I actually miss them a lot.

Seriously???

This is seriously the most random entry I have posted yet, but I just had to share this one with you guys. I'm at home, mind going a thousand miles an hour, and I needed to get some of my thoughts on paper. So I go to the family desk and within a matter of seconds THIS caught my attention. Like really?!?!

And of course this is the doing of my youngest cousin (who you guys still have yet to meet). The only thing I could think is what the heck did he have to hold on to that would allow him to sharpen this stub of a pencil so perfectly?

Are They REALLY Hating?

So a few days ago I made a post on Twitter:
Step back & ask yourself why people act the way they do around you. It's not always "hating". YOU could be the problem.

These days it seems that the word "Hater" is used so freely. I mean, EVERY SINGLE PERSON that doesn't agree with or like something we do, we have this tendency to call them a Hater. Even my niece (who was 5-yrs-old the time) called my grandmother a hater because she was told to go take a nap.
  Smiley Smiley
Okay, I have to admit, I laughed my butt off at that one!

But back to my point, no one takes the time to use their common sense anymore and say, "Well, I don't like and agree with every single thing other people do, so why would they like and agree with everything I say or do?" So many problems wouldn't be problems if we would just adopt this mentality.
However, there are a few rotten apples out there that for some odd reason just can't see how rotten their attitudes really are. And because of this they seem to think that everyone around them is the problem...I mean after all, the bad attitude has nothing to do with it.

Sometimes, rotten or not, we ALL need to step back and check ourselves. Are we facing the same issues everywhere we go and with every person we meet? If that's the case, it's not hating that's the issue. It's something that we have to fix within ourselves.
